About us

The West Midlands Children’s Health Networks is hosted by Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as tertiary (specialist) care providers for these services.  The aim of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s is to continue to work towards close integration with local hospitals and services including community teams, third sector providers, commissioners and our patients and their families, in the way that services are developed and delivered.

Clinical networks aim to ensure that pathways of care are delivered in partnership with patients and their families, are of the highest possible standard, delivered by the most appropriate people and as close to home as possible.  Whilst established networks exist for some services, these are at varying levels of development and commissioning.  Further development of networks to promote better integration of care and delivery closer to home has been identified by the Department of Health as a focus to improving care.  The West Midlands Children’s Health Networks is working with commissioners locally and nationally to develop those networks of care that have been identified as priorities, with a view to supporting further network development wherever possible.

The West Midlands Children’s Health Networks is led  by the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Networks and the Chief Officer for Strategy at Birmingham Women and Children’s Hospital:
