About the Network

The West Midlands General Paediatric Surgery Network (WMGPS) was first established in 2014.  After a brief lull it was revived in 2016 with the resumption of network meetings on 29th September of that year.    Network meetings are held twice per year, in the spring and autumn and include CPD.  More information about meetings can be found on the network meetings page.

Network objectives

  • Develop and support common standards of care for GPS across the region
  • Drive best practice guidelines for the management of common conditions
  • Provide consistent, up to date parent/patient information
  • Ensure that all GPS providers, patients and carers have a voice
  • Improve communication and collaborative working across the network
  • Create opportunities for like-minded clinicians to interact
  • Provide regular CPD activity for GPS providers
  • Help define training in GPS across the region
  • Provide an online resource to facilitate and support all GPS network activity
  • Underpin governance and professional revalidation related to GPS

The network recognises that the services of surgery, anaesthesia, paediatrics and children’s nurses are interdependent. We are committed to engaging with all our clinical partners to enhance children’s surgical services across the region.
