Paediatric Neurosciences

Welcome to the Midlands Children’s Neurosciences Network.

Background

The network project grew out of the Safe and Sustainable initiative which aimed to provide 24/7 access to neurosurgical services through regional children’s neuroscience networks.  This network initiative is being led mainly by tertiary paediatric neurosurgery and paediatric neurology units in the East and West Midlands, in collaboration with NHS England.

Purpose

The aim is for organisations and professionals across the regions to provide a sustained and integrated network of care.  This means that teams from hospitals and other providers will work together to improve the quality and experience of care for children and young people and their families with neurological conditions and needs.  The network will be at the forefront of the implementation of the Children’s Epilepsy Surgery Service (CESS) across the region.

Network Clinical Leads

The following joint clinical leads have been appointed:

  • Mr Richard Walsh, Consultant Neurosurgeon, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Foundation Trust
  • Dr William Whitehouse, Consultant Neurologist, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
