Community Care
- Outreach nursing provision
- There are a number of haemoglobinopathy specialist nurses who support patients within the community. These are a mixture of Hospital funded and community funded positions but they all work in concert with local and specialist haemoglobinopathy teams
- See community specialist haemoglobinopathy nurses for further details
- General Practitioners and Practice nurses:
- General practitioners and practice nurses are available for all non-haemoglobinopathy related complaints and are very important in ensuring immunisations for all patients are up to date
- Health visitors
- As with all children health checks are performed. In some cases these may be combined with the specialist haemoglobinopathy nurse visits
- School nurses
- School nurses should be able to implement the child’s school care plan and help with any acute health issues that appear whilst at school
- Voluntary services
- There are a number of voluntary services available within the West Midlands network who perform vital work in improving the lives of children with haemoglobinopathy.
- See patient support groups for further details
